When to quit your job once you’ve reached the point of no return?

When to quit your job? Ask Kaycinho

So you’ve identified that something needs to change in your life professionally and you want to know when to quit your job?

And I guess you’ve reached that point when it’s not a matter of “if” but more a matter of “when” to make a decision and move on…

Well, following up on my story from episode one of these series, when I decided it was time for me to really make a change, I felt so relieved and free. It was amazing!

It was like, why did I wait so long?

It’s hard to describe the feeling but I’m sure many of you can relate, and if not, than it’s just a matter of time before you experience the same feeling.

So that was for the good part.

Because I don’ t know for you, but for me, the feeling didn’t last that long, because that’s when fear came in.

When to quit your job? Don’t let fear get in the way

When to quit your job? Don't let fear get in the way

Thoughts came to my mind like: “You’re never gonna make it”, “You can’t leave a decent job, that’s crazy”, “Forget about dreams, we live in real world”, and so on.

And this was just my own inner voice, motivated by fear.

Now try telling your plans around and not only will you hear your inner voice, but also the voices of those around you who will project their own fears upon your life.

Not because they are evil, but just because fear is a strong feeling that many many people have accommodated to live with.

And when you want to break that power, for them it’s just like you’ve always been part of the mafia, and now you wanna quit?

So what they are doing really is talking loud about their own fears, but the problem is, that when you are in the process of making such live changing decisions, the voices of those closest to you will matter… and may well kill your projects even before you’ve actually made a decision.

Now I’m not saying you should quit your job because you just want to AND start thinking afterwards, that would be crazy.

You NEED a plan.

When to quit your job? You need a plan

When to quit your job? You need a plan

So I’m not saying you should act first and think later, but what I’m saying is that telling everybody about your projects could have some nasty consequences:

1 – it will put a lot of pressure on your shoulders before you’ve even started because everybody is watching you now

2 – as mentioned earlier, some people will just kill your motivation in a snap.

Words are really powerful.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s good to get some advice, especially at that point, because you know you want to do something… but you may not know how to turn that burning desire into a business that will actually make you some money.

Need advice? Here are some guidelines

But if you do get advice, here are some guidelines :

1 – take advice from people who have actually achieved something you’d like to achieve. Don’t go ask Uncle Larry who never had a business, or to Aunt Louise who never managed to make a profit from her businesses.

I’m not saying you should only listen to millionaires, because even uncle Larry and aunt Louise could teach you something about what not to do… But at least choose someone that has had some kind of success or experience down the path you wish to take

2 – take advice from people who are positive about life, and actually believe good things happen. Sounds silly, but listen well next time you are in a conversation with colleagues, or family members discussing about their work life. You’d be surprised.

3 – try to find a mentor that can give you some words of wisdom, and make sure you write down what they tell you.

It will be handy one day. Good mentors are not easy to find, but they are out there, and usually, they love sharing their knowledge.

They just don’t want to share with just anyone. So sometimes you have to be patient, and show you are determined.

When to quit your job then?

When to quit your job then?

Disclaimer: Before we move further, I must insist on the fact that I am not a financial advisor. I’m sharing my own experience and my own views on the subject. So before you make any effective decision, unless you are qualified for it, I strongly encourage you to seek the help of a professional financial advisor.

So, going back to our initial question, when should you make the decision to change your life, quit your job and start a business? And when should you act on it?

When should you make a decision?

Well, the first part it’s easy: if you’re watching this video, chances are you’ve already made the decision, you just don’t know it.

But whatever your case may be, if you’ve reached that point where you don’t like your current situation, and you know that even a dream job wouldn’t satisfy you in the long run, now is the time to make a decision.

Just say it aloud: “I make the decision to take the necessary action and dedication to change my life”.

It’s a powerful statement.

When should you act on it?

Now for the second part, which is when should you start acting up on it, I’d say this :

From the moment you make a decision, you now have a goal, and you should start taking steps right away, now matter how tiny they may seem at first, as long as you get closer to your goal day after day.

Now, should you quit your job once you’ve made a decision? Unless money is not a problem for you, my answer is NO.

But we are getting there, and I will show you how you can even find the process enjoyable.

That’s precisely what will be talking about in the next video in the series, so just check this playlist.
